St Leonard's, East Kilbride
a parish in the Roman Catholic Diocese of Motherwell

ABOUT OUR WEBSITE

This, St Leonard's first website, was designed on a laptop. Primarily it was designed with users of laptops and desktops in mind. However, users of other devices should not be deterred. If they can indeed make use of the site it would be a wonderful bonus.

The basic shape of the pages was "inspired" by Our Diocese website. That site has a page width of 780 pixels, enabling it to display on most systems without the need for a horizontal scrollbar. (Disappointingly it was discovered during the testing of our site that a user with a screen resolution width of 800 pixels who uses Safari to browse will have an annoying horizontal scrollbar.)

Fonts and Graphics
As in Our Diocese website and many parish sites, the sizes of fonts and graphics are all hard-coded. If you do find difficulty with the font-size then please use your browser's Zoom facility.

Graphics present an interesting problem. A graphic which looks fine at a screen resolution of 1280 x 800 will look different at a resolution of 800 x 600. The important difference is in the ratio of width to height (called the "aspect ratio"). To make an image look exactly the same no matter what the user's screen aspect ratio is not really a priority with a parish website. So, please be forgiving if the images which you see are a bit squashed or stretched. To see them as they appeared when they were created please use a resolution of 1280 x 800, or another resolution of a similar aspect ratio.
